Vodafone's European network will be powered entirely by renewable energy

Vodafone has been planning to switch to renewable energy for some time, with a previous target of achieving this goal by 2025. This date remains in effect for its African operations. Due to the large number of renewable energy suppliers across Europe, Vodafone has decided to bring forward its European 2025 target to July 2021. To raise awareness of its efforts, the company will turn its logo green across its digital and social channels in 12 markets.

Vodafone Group CEO Nick Read said when commenting on the news.

　"From 1 July 2021, Vodafone customers in Europe can rest assured that the connections they use are powered entirely by electricity from renewable sources. This is an important milestone for us Our ambition is to reduce our own global carbon emissions to net zero by 2030, help our customers reduce their own environmental footprint, and continue to build an inclusive and sustainable digital society in all our markets."

While it’s great to see Vodafone switching to renewable energy, it also has a lot of hardware that comes with its own carbon emissions during the manufacturing process. To ensure their expanded use, the company has committed to reuse, resell or recycle 100% of the waste it generates by 2025. It also supports a circular economy for equipment sold to customers and accelerates efforts to extend equipment life while enabling responsible recycling by providing repair, refurbishment and resale.
